Pistoia Musei launches talk series around Aurelio Amendola retrospective

institutional · 2026-04-27

Pistoia Musei has organized a talk series titled 'Fotografia come pretesto' running until November 5, 2021, at Palazzo de' Rossi in Pistoia. The cycle, curated by director Monica Preti, brings together critics, writers, journalists, and artists to discuss the relationship between image and art, with a focus on cultural heritage. The talks are linked to the ongoing exhibition 'Aurelio Amendola | Un’antologia. Michelangelo, Burri, Warhol e gli altri,' on view until November 7 at Palazzo Buontalenti and Antico Palazzo dei Vescovi. The retrospective spans over 60 years of Amendola's career, featuring around 300 images that cover his experimentation with photography and art, architecture, and 1970s happenings. Participants include art historian Tomaso Montanari (Rector of the University for Foreigners of Siena), artist Roberto Barni, art historian Marco Bazzini, Massimo Bray (Director General of Treccani), Francesca Cappelletti (Director of Galleria Borghese), artist and journalist Gianluigi Colin (cover editor of 'La Lettura' of Corriere della Sera), critic Bruno Corà (President of Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri), photography historian Walter Guadagnini (Director of CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia), and artist Emilio Isgrò. The series explores how Amendola's photographs remind us that no gaze is neutral, prompting reflection on a collective way to 'see' cultural heritage.
