Pisitakun Kuantalaeng's Conceptual Practice Challenges Image Value and Political Narratives
Pisitakun Kuantalaeng employs techniques of repetition and doubling to investigate how images gain social significance and economic worth. His ongoing project, The Unfinished History, initiated in 2012, juxtaposes sanctioned political visuals with random online discoveries. In 2012, he produced currency valued at its production cost in We Need To Talk About Money, which critiques economic volatility. The 2010 Useless Art-Exhibition: Ratchaburi Journey required purchasers to buy lots at predetermined prices without knowledge of the artwork. A graduate in sculpture from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Pisitakun has participated in residencies in Japan and South Korea. His work featured in the 2014 exhibition Concept Context Contestation at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, reflecting on universal values after the May 22, 2014 military coup.
