Pirajean Lees' Formentera retreat embraces barefoot living

architecture-design · 2026-07-27

Clémence Pirajean and James Lees, the duo behind Pirajean Lees, have finalized a family retreat on Formentera, the smallest of Spain's Balearic Islands. After two decades of visits, they acquired the property two years prior. The house, originally constructed in the 1960s, underwent renovations adhering to stringent local planning regulations, prioritizing repair rather than overhaul. Significant updates included an open ground floor, preservation of the vaulted kitchen ceiling, restoration of fireplaces, and the replacement of dark tiles with hand-polished concrete. The design emphasizes natural materials and local craftsmanship, featuring a curved yellow sofa and an oak sideboard from their Editions collection. Notably, the house lacks a formal front door, encouraging a seamless flow between indoor and outdoor spaces. Founded in 2017, Pirajean Lees focuses on hospitality interiors.
