Pippo Delbono's film 'Bobò' premieres at Torino Film Festival

other · 2026-04-26

Pippo Delbono's film 'Bobò,' dedicated to his longtime stage partner Vincenzo Cannavacciuolo (known as Bobò), premiered at the Torino Film Festival, winning three awards: special mention in the international documentary competition, the Interfaith Award, and a mention for the Ghandi Glasses Award. The film blends archival footage shot over decades with new images from Naples and Aversa, creating an uncategorizable work between ritual and confession. Bobò, who died in 2019, was a deaf-mute man taken from a psychiatric hospital at age 46 and became a central figure in Delbono's performances for over twenty years. Delbono describes Bobò as a genius whose poetic movements and ability to dance to music despite being deaf were mysterious. The film will be released in Italian theaters on November 27 via Luce Cinecittà.
