Pippi Longstocking Turns 80: Exhibition in Cuneo Celebrates Astrid Lindgren

An exhibition titled 'Astrid Lindgren and the Strength of Children: 80 Years of Pippi Longstocking' opens October 3, 2025, at Spazio Innov@zione in Cuneo, Italy, celebrating the iconic character created by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren in 1945. The show, organized by cultural association Cuadri ETS and CRC Innova (instrumental entity of Fondazione CRC), runs until April 26, 2026. It highlights Pippi as a symbol of intellectual freedom and universal values such as independence, generosity, courage, and justice. The exhibition also pays tribute to Lindgren, a pioneering children's author and activist for children's and animal rights, whose works have been translated into over 60 languages, including Zulu. Developed in collaboration with The Astrid Lindgren Company in Stockholm, which granted official license and support, the show emphasizes Lindgren's pedagogical importance. Andrea Borri of Cuadri stated, 'Pippi is a model of freedom and self-determination,' and noted that Lindgren promoted education based on listening, autonomy, and respect for childhood subjectivity. The exhibition aims to encourage children and adults to think independently, question absurd rules, and fight injustices.
