Pipe Yanguas to Bring His Dot-and-Line Language to Guatemala in 2026

artist · 2026-04-26

Colombian artist Pipe Yanguas (born 1982, Cali) will create a new intervention at a Biennale space in Guatemala in early 2026, expanding his signature visual grammar of points and lines into a new context. His practice, which began in 2020 during quarantine when he drew a Coreidae nymph using only dots and lines, has evolved into a multidisciplinary body of work spanning painting, murals, photography, video, and performance. Yanguas describes his DNA Series as a code for identity and mutation, while his Day and Night series explores natural cycles and the Miniature Metallic Series draws on his family's jewelry background. His urban mural "Cali Florece" in Cali's historic center sparked controversy when it was vandalized on March 8 after being misinterpreted as a government gift to women; Yanguas spent eleven months obtaining permits and self-funded the production. He is currently working on projects in Miami and planning future works in Egypt and Barranquilla, Colombia. His ongoing "Together We Are Infinite" project involves painting murals worldwide, photographing local creatives against them, and donating a portion of sales to arts foundations. The video "Air Connected," made with pianist Elar, visualizes air as an invisible connective force. Yanguas cites the philosophy "We are all connected" and the idea that destiny is "the collection of everybody's choices" as central to his work.
