Pioneer of Software Art and Robotics Luigi Pagliarini Dies at 59

Luigi Pagliarini, a pioneering artist in software art and robotics, has died. Born in Pescara on August 10, 1963, he was a former student of Sergio Lombardo and associated with Galleria Jartrakor and the Rivista di Psicologia dell'Arte, where he published numerous articles. He founded the Pescara Electronic Artists Meeting, directed the Ecoteca, collaborated with LEGO Group and SONY, invented the RoboCup Junior, and curated the Robo[art] section of the Robotsatplay Festival in Denmark. His 2018 sculpture PixelBeing exemplifies his work on an archaeology of the future and the prehistoricity of electronics. In a 2020 interview, he lamented the schism between artistic and scientific thought, calling himself an incurable romantic.
