Pino Pascali's multimedia legacy explored at Palazzo Grassi
A conversation on Pino Pascali's relationship with moving images will take place on November 29, 2016, at the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi in Venice. The event is a collaboration between Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana and the Fondazione Pino Pascali of Polignano a Mare. Speakers include Rosalba Branà, director of the Fondazione Pino Pascali; Valérie Da Costa, professor at the University of Strasbourg and author of the first French monograph on Pascali, "Pino Pascali. Retour à la Méditerranée" (Les Presses du Réel, 2015); Marco Giusti, film critic and TV author, whose documentary "Pino Pascali o le trasformazioni del serpente" (2003) will be screened; and Santa Nastro of Artribune as moderator. Pascali worked extensively with moving images, collaborating with Lodolo film from 1958 to 1967 on commercials and cartoons for Carosello, and as an assistant set designer for RAI programs such as "Biblioteca di Studio 1" (1964). He also created sets for musical fictions including "Primula Rossa," "La storia di Rossella O’Hara," "I tre Moschettieri," "Al Grand Hotel," and "Il Fornaretto di Venezia." Da Costa's research explores Pascali's complex relationship with the concept of "Mediterraneanness," focusing on anthropological aspects in works like "Le Penne di Esopo" (Centre Pompidou, Paris) and "La Vedova Blu" (Museum Ludwig, Vienna), opening a dialogue with Pasolini's filmography.
