Pinksummer Opens Palermo Space with Pictorial Goose Turn

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Genoa-based gallery Pinksummer, directed by Francesca Pennone and Antonella Berruti, opens a pop-up space in Palermo on May 24, 2018, with the group show Pictorial Goose Turn, running until October 6. The exhibition is held at Via Patania 25/27 in the historic center, in collaboration with curator Paolo Falcone. The title references William J.T. Mitchell's essay Pictorial Turn and the floor plan of the labyrinthine space, which resembles a goose game board. The show features solo presentations by Peter Fend (Costa Verso Costa), Koo Jeong A (A Tengam), Invernomuto (Med T-1000), and Sancho Silva (untitled). Pinksummer's arrival is part of a wave of galleries opening temporary spaces in Palermo during Manifesta 12, the itinerant contemporary art biennial opening June 16, 2018. Other galleries include Rome's Lombardi and La Nica, and Vittorio Rappa's project room, alongside artist studios by Ignazio Mortellaro and Luca Cutrufelli in the newly inaugurated Spazio Speciale. Pennone notes that Manifesta has spurred independent projects, such as Luca Trevisani's work on Raymond Roussel at Grand Hotel et Des Palmes, and private investments like Massimo Valsecchi's Palazzo Butera. The Falcone family and Fondazione Sambuca have previously supported Pinksummer artists at the Venice Biennale, including Tomás Saraceno (2009), Mariana Castillo Deball (2011), Luca Vitone (2013), and Michael Beutler (2017).
