Pinksummer Gallery Opens Temporary Rome Space with Tomás Saraceno
Genoa-based gallery Pinksummer, founded in 2000 by Antonella Berruti and Francesca Pennone, opens a temporary outpost in Rome on October 10, 2016, with a solo show of Tomás Saraceno. The Argentine artist, architect, and performer (based in Frankfurt) returns to the capital after his 2011 exhibition at MACRO. The project is initiated by collectors Ilaria Bozzi Ferri and Flavio Ferri through their Gate residency program, which invites research galleries from across Italy to develop projects with artists not typically working with Roman colleagues. Following Saraceno, the space will host shows by Georgina Starr and Bojan Sarcevic. The Rome venue, located at Via del Vantaggio 17/A near Piazza del Popolo, consists of two 16-square-meter street-level rooms with a small courtyard and an additional basement room. It previously housed a gallery from 1970 to the early 2000s, showing works from the Scuola di Via Cavour. Pinksummer plans to produce site-specific exhibitions, as with Saraceno's. Meanwhile, the gallery continues its Genoa program, opening a solo show of Tobias Putrih on October 14. Berruti notes the city's beauty but laments high flight costs, comparing them to trips to Machu Picchu.
