Pinault Collection Unveils Lorna Simpson and Paulo Nazareth Shows in Venice
The Pinault Collection has opened two major solo exhibitions at Punta della Dogana in Venice as part of a four-show series titled 'Quartetto veneziano,' coinciding with the 61st Venice Biennale. Lorna Simpson's 'Third Person' is her most significant European survey since 'Source Notes' at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, curated by Emma Lavigne. It features around fifty works, including monumental paintings, collages, and installations that explore memory, identity, and representation. The exhibition is structured in three thematic sections: enigmatic presences, polar landscapes from the 'Ice' and 'Earth and Sky' series, and monumental female figures in Tadao Ando's Cube. Paulo Nazareth's 'Algebra,' curated by Fernanda Brenner, presents a dense overview of two decades of his practice, addressing colonial trauma and memory through installations, videos, performances, and photographs. A key installation reconstructs the silhouette of a slave ship using salt as a metaphor for healing and corrosion. Both shows run from March 29 to November 22, 2026, with trilingual catalogues published by Marsilio Arte. The series also includes exhibitions of Michael Armitage and Amar Kanwar at Palazzo Grassi.
