Pinault Collection's 'Luogo e segni' at Punta della Dogana: A Complex, Layered Exhibition

The Pinault Collection has opened 'Luogo e segni' at Punta della Dogana in Venice, an exhibition curated by Martin Bethenod and Mouna Mekouar. The show eschews a single theme, instead organizing works around concepts like 'the interaction between nature, creation and poetry' and 'the memory of places.' Curators describe the layout as a 'leporello,' with rooms that echo each other indirectly. The exhibition features a mix of previously shown works and new pieces, including Roni Horn's glass sculptures, a bead curtain by Félix González-Torres, and a curtain by Wu Tsang inspired by club culture. A dense sequence includes works by Roni Horn, Louise Bourgeois, Agnes Martin, Constantin Brâncuși, and Vija Celmins from Horn's personal collection. The show also highlights post-painterly works by R.H. Quaytman and rediscovered artists like Simone Fattal, whose ritualistic ceramics accompany an audio poem by Etel Adnan read by Robert Wilson. Other artists include Carol Rama, Alessandro Piangiamore, Nina Canell, and Tatiana Trouvé. The exhibition is described as intentionally anti-harmonic and stratified, mixing generations and approaches. The venue's spaces were redesigned by Tadao Ando.
