Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo Unveils New Installations and Dance Performances

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Four years after its 2018 reopening, the Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo in Brescia celebrates renewed installations, new acquisitions, and a program of theater, dance, and music within its halls. The dance piece "Stanze / Rooms" by choreographer Diego Tortelli, performed by Aterballetto, weaves through the museum's rooms, engaging spectators in a network of gazes and synesthesia. The new exhibition layout, designed by Paolo Tassinari, uses varied plaster and wallpaper colors to give each room a distinct chromatic temperature. Curated by Roberta D'Adda, the new path focuses on 18th-century painting, centered on Giacomo Ceruti (il Pitocchetto), with a dedicated room for his works. New Ceruti acquisitions include "Bravo" (ca. 1725), "Madre con bambino" (1730), and portraits of the Marchesa Laura Vitali Aliprandi and Marchese don Erasmo Aliprandi (ca. 1740). A major Ceruti exhibition curated by D'Adda, Francesco Frangi, and Alessandro Morandotti is scheduled for February 2023, when Brescia and Bergamo will be Italian Capital of Culture. The itinerary also features works by Antonio Cifrondi, Giacomo Francesco Cipper (il Todeschini), and Faustino Bocchi, linking to earlier masters like Lotto, Savoldo, Moretto, and Moroni.
