Pinacoteca di Faenza reopens with new exhibition layout
In December, the Pinacoteca Comunale di Faenza, recognized as the oldest museum in Romagna, reopened with a revamped exhibition design by Studio Lucchi e Biserni. This updated layout showcases artworks spanning from the early Middle Ages to contemporary times, featuring sections on ancient art (10th to 18th century) and 19th- and 20th-century Italian painting and sculpture. The museum's origins trace back to 1797 when the municipality acquired a collection of prints, drawings, plasters, and paintings from Giuseppe Zauli, the founder of the Scuola Comunale di Disegno. It welcomed visitors in 1879, expanding its collections through the suppression of religious orders during the Napoleonic era. Noteworthy pieces include works by Giovanni da Rimini, the Maestro dei Crocifissi francescani, and the Cenacolo Baccariniano, along with contemporary art from the Bianchedi Bettoli/Vallunga donation, featuring artists like Alberto Savinio and Gino Severini.
