Pinacoteca de São Paulo Incorporates Four New Works to Its Contemporary Collection

exhibition · 2026-04-23

The Pinacoteca de São Paulo has integrated four new works into its permanent collection, now on view from February 16, 2019. The acquisitions include pieces by Marcius Galan, Débora Bolsoni, Regina Parra, and Matheus Rocha Pitta, displayed in dialogue with the museum's long-term exhibition on the second floor of Pina Luz. Curated by the institution's Núcleo de Pesquisa e Curadoria, the presentation contrasts historical and contemporary perspectives drawn from the museum's own holdings. Marcius Galan's 'Seção diagonal (prisma fumê)' (2012), acquired through the museum's Patronos da Arte Contemporânea program, creates optical illusions through spatial interventions. Débora Bolsoni's crucial work 'Lição de mímese' (2004-2006), donated by Iguatemi during SP-Arte 2017, features chalkboards framed like mirrors. Regina Parra's neon piece 'Chance' (2015-2017), also acquired via the patron program, presents the ambiguous phrase 'A grande chance'. Matheus Rocha Pitta's interactive installation 'Primeira pedra' (2015-2016), donated by the artist and his gallery, consists of concrete cubes offered in exchange for a stone found outside, radicalizing the concept of the multiple. The exhibition runs until June 17, 2019.
