Pilvi Takala's Mid-Career Retrospective at Kunsthall Trondheim

Kunsthall Trondheim is hosting 'Breaking Ranks,' a mid-career retrospective showcasing the work of Finnish artist Pilvi Takala, which will be on display until May 10, 2026. This exhibition highlights over twenty years of Takala's interventionist approach, encompassing film, installation, and performance art. By assuming various roles, including princess, intern, security guard, and negotiator, she critiques the enforcement of societal norms. Her art reveals the vulnerability of social constructs by making everyday implicit norms uncomfortable. Curated by Adam Kleinman and Joe Rowley, the exhibition receives support from Frame Contemporary Art Finland and The Finnish-Norwegian Culture Institute. Notable works include 'The Trainee' (2008) and a piece featuring a Snow White impersonator at Disneyland, prompting viewers to contemplate their positions within societal conventions.
