Pilotta Monumental Complex in Parma Unveils New Rest Areas, Videomapping, and Gallery Reinstallations
The Complesso Monumentale della Pilotta in Parma, directed by Simone Verde since spring 2017, has introduced several new features. A new rest area with sofas and vending machines displays rare porcelain previously kept in storage. The Teatro Farnese now features a videomapping projection every 30 minutes, recreating historical spectacles. The under-gallery spaces now host volumes on engineering and architecture, sculptures surviving WWII bombings, models, and films. The most significant change is in the Galleria Nazionale's Ala Nord alta, where Guido Canali's 1970 tubular structure (tubi Innocenti) is now partially hidden by panels, creating monographic rooms focusing on artists like Bartolomeo Schedoni, the Carracci, and Girolamo Mazzola Bedoli. A new Passerella Farnese displays Renaissance medals and coins, including works by Pisanello. Verde announced that the entire exhibition path is complete after six years, with many works from storage exhibited for the first time. Upcoming PNRR funds will be used to renovate the lighting system.
