Chinese design studio PILLS has installed a monumental floating cloud structure at the entrance of MIXC VILLAGE in Dongguan's Binhai Bay New Area, commissioned by China Resources Land. The inflatable membrane installation hovers between three and 20 meters above ground, using helium and air to create a breathing rhythm. It functions as a gateway landmark, shading device, microclimate modifier, and orientation marker. The design responds to the site's coastal location between city and sea, evoking an island fantasy. The narrative unfolds through spatial chapters: Revelation, Landing, Encounters, and Gathering. The structure continuously monitors internal air pressure, adjusting the helium-to-air ratio with temperature changes. Coordinated hoists enable ascent and descent, while a wind-monitoring mechanism lowers it when speeds exceed safe thresholds. Timed misting systems and animated lighting at night complete the atmospheric effect. The project is part of MIXC VILLAGE's slow-commerce vision, embodying the philosophy of 'free at ease.' The cloud is visible from surrounding highways day and night.
