Pietro Vallone Elected President of ANGAMC, Outlines Challenges for Italian Galleries

Pietro Vallone, partner and financial director of Massimo De Carlo, has been elected president of ANGAMC (National Association of Modern and Contemporary Art Galleries) for the 2026–2030 term, succeeding Andrea Sirio Ortolani. The election took place during the association's ordinary assembly at the Triennale di Milano on May 25, 2026. Vice presidents are Giovanni Bonelli and Claudia Ciaccio; new councilors include Antonio Addamiano, Federica Barletta, Filippo Di Carlo, and Marco Niccoli. Territorial delegates were appointed for several Italian regions. In an interview, Vallone acknowledged a structural slowdown in the global art market due to geopolitical instability, economic shifts, and changing consumption and collecting models. He emphasized that galleries remain strategic cultural hubs, not just commercial operators, but their business models must evolve to address rising operational costs and a generational shift in collecting. Vallone plans to consolidate fiscal and cultural heritage circulation reforms achieved under Ortolani, strengthen the internationalization of Italian art through institutional collaboration, and enhance the cultural recognition of galleries. He stressed that many Italian galleries are small structures doing sophisticated research and need tailored economic support to compete globally.
