Pietro Sedda's Cilla Marea Porcelain Collection for Rosenthal at Contemporary Cluster

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Pietro Sedda, a Sardinian-born tattoo artist (Cagliari, 1969), has designed a porcelain collection titled 'Cilla Marea' for the historic German manufacturer Rosenthal, now on view at Contemporary Cluster in Rome. The collection features plates, cups, and two amphorae/urns decorated with Sedda's signature black-and-white imagery—blurred faces and sailor motifs—that evoke memory and travel. Sedda's approach to porcelain mirrors his work on human skin, treating the ceramic surface as a canvas for narrative. The collaboration continues Rosenthal's tradition of working with contemporary artists, following Studio-Line (1960s) with Walter Gropius and collections with Gianni Versace (1993). Sedda, who studied at Istituto d'Arte di Oristano and Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera, runs Studio Saint Mariner in Milan (since 2010), a creative lab that has also tattooed Arne Jacobsen's Grand Prix chairs for designer Diego Grandi. The exhibition includes floral arrangements by Dylan Tripp. Clara Tosi Pamphili wrote the article for Artribune.
