Pietro Ruffo to Transform Rome Metro Construction Silos into Public Art

The construction site for Rome's Metro C at Piazza Venezia, a major urban hub, is being repurposed as an open-air contemporary art venue. Ten monumental silos that have dominated the square since excavations began over a year ago will host rotating site-specific interventions by artists, starting with Pietro Ruffo in December 2024. Ruffo, known for exploring Rome's architectural and cultural stratifications, will create the first temporary installation on the silos' surfaces. The project, confirmed by Artribune, aims to turn an intrusive industrial element into an opportunity for urban regeneration, echoing precedents like David Tremlett's work on silos at Ex Caffarri in Reggio Emilia. The initiative coincides with Ruffo's solo exhibition at Palazzo delle Esposizioni nearby. The construction, part of the ambitious archeostation project for the Metro C extension, is expected to continue for several years, during which the silos will serve as an evolving exhibition space.
