Pietro Leone's film documents Alfredo Pirri's mirror installation at Castello Maniace

A documentary film by Pietro Leone captures Alfredo Pirri's immersive mirror installation at Castello Maniace in Syracuse, running until December 2021. The project, conceived and curated by Helga Marsala and produced by Aditus for the Regione Siciliana/Soprintendenza di Siracusa, temporarily transformed the 13th-century castle built by Frederick II in Ortigia. The video, premiered on Sky Arte, accompanies an exhibition in the Project Room featuring artifacts from the Frederick era, sketches, watercolors, and a maquette, adjacent to the vast Sala Ipostila covered in mirrors. This installation represents the largest indoor iteration of Pirri's ongoing "Passi" project, spanning 900 square meters of walkable mirrored surface, second only to his 2007 open-air version in the Forum of Caesar in Rome. Leone's film, shot without alterations, captures the creative process from nighttime preparations to the completed work, emphasizing reflections, sounds, and geometries. The short film includes an interview with Pirri about the "Passi" project and his experience at Maniace.
