Pietro Fortuna's 'Glory VI' Installation at BPS22 Charleroi
Pietro Fortuna's exhibition 'Glory VI. Au temps où nous n’étions pas des hommes' at BPS22 Musée d'art de Charleroi in Belgium presents an archaeological-like settlement of objects. The installation features a large glass circle containing rose buds, a rectangular case with worked stone forms, and a column with tools. Objects are grouped into feminine (biscuit tin, toy car, green apple), masculine (fishing rods, hunting rifle, bell, pill and tobacco boxes), and collective (steel circle, vertical ropes, display cases) categories. Central to the space are long outdoor tables with beer glasses, some bent or horizontal. The work evokes a magical thinking and a time before humans, critiquing art's violent polemic against the world and humanity's obsessive drive toward the inhuman. Fortuna, born in Padua in 1950, created this installation for the museum's space. The exhibition runs from May 20 to August 27, 2023.
