Pietro Consagra's Architectural Vision Explored in Marsala Exhibition

exhibition · 2026-05-04

At the Convento del Carmine in Marsala, the 'Consagra, Architettura' exhibition, curated by Sergio Troisi in collaboration with the Archivio Pietro Consagra and the Ente Mostra di Pittura Città di Marsala, features fifty pieces by Pietro Consagra, who was born in Mazara del Vallo in 1920. His artistic journey began with clay works and portraits, drawing inspiration from Renato Guttuso and his interactions with Brâncuși and Picasso. He pioneered a frontal sculpture approach and engaged audiences through his 'Colloqui' at the Venice Biennale. Following a trip to America, he shifted towards architecture with a focus on aesthetics. In 1968, he criticized functional architecture and contributed to the reconstruction of Gibellina after an earthquake, proposing a new building facade in Mazara del Vallo, aiming for completion by his 2020 centenary.
