Pierre Huyghe's 'The Host and the Cloud' Blurs Reality and Fiction
Pierre Huyghe's project 'The Host and the Cloud' unfolded across five rendezvous at the Musée des Arts et Traditions Populaires in Paris, a museum closed since 2005. On October 31, 2009, and February 14, 2010, visitors navigated the museum's four levels encountering a mix of staged and improvised actions, including choreographies, living tableaux, a mock trial, a pseudo-black mass, and hypnosis sessions. Actors played museum staff, while some characters wore luminous screen masks. The work incorporated references to Halloween, Saint Valentine's Day, and popular culture (E.T., Thriller). A film and a book are planned as future components. Huyghe also exhibited 'La Saison des fêtes' at the Palacio de Cristal in Madrid's Parque del Buen Retiro until May 31, 2010. Critic Marie Muracciole attended the events and reported on them.
