Pierre Alary adapts Gone with the Wind into graphic novel
French comics artist Pierre Alary has created the first graphic novel adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's 1936 novel Gone with the Wind. Published in Italy by ReNoir Comics, the work is split into two volumes: the first released on November 13, 2024, and the second scheduled for spring 2025. The adaptation spans nearly 300 color pages, closely following the original story's romantic epic and historical context of the American Civil War. Alary, known for series Belladone, SinBad, and Silas Corey, as well as graphic novels of Moby Dick and Zorro, stated he reread the novel multiple times to capture themes of a world disappearing and being reborn. The novel, a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1937 translated into 37 languages, gained further fame through Victor Fleming's 1939 film starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. This marks the first time the story has been rendered in comic form.
