Piero Guida's Sculptures in Matera's Rupestrian Churches

The XXIX edition of Le Grandi Mostre nei Sassi, organized by Circolo La Scaletta, is being held in the rupestrian churches of Madonna delle Virtù and San Nicola dei Greci in Matera. The exhibition features a solo show of Piero Guida, presenting 41 sculptures in cement and plaster created between 1947 and 2016. Curated by Tommaso Strinati, the works form a narrative titled "Tenerezza – Racconto per un popolo di statue." This edition holds special significance due to Matera's designation as European Capital of Culture in 2019 and the approaching 30th anniversary of the exhibition series. The event underscores Matera's revival as an art city, linked to the recovery of its Sassi archaeological complex.
