Piero Gilardi Retrospective at MAXXI Rome
A significant retrospective showcasing Piero Gilardi (born in Turin, 1942) has commenced at the MAXXI Museum in Rome, under the curation of Hou Hanrou, Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, and Marco Scotini. This exhibition spans Gilardi's artistic journey beginning in the 1960s, where he intertwined art with scientific and communicative elements. Notably, his work 'Macchina per discorrere' foreshadowed the concept of interactivity, while 'Vestiti Natura' and 'Tappeti Natura' explored the relationship between society and nature. In the late 1960s, he redirected his efforts toward political themes, crafting masks and puppets. The 1980s marked his venture into digital art. His research on culture, technology, and aesthetic education is represented at the PAV – Parco Arte Vivente in Turin, showcasing biological architecture and site-specific installations. This retrospective offers a fresh interpretation of Italian art from the 1960s to the present.
