Piera Detassis on Venice Film Festival, Gender Equality, and New Elle Daily

Piera Detassis, President and Artistic Director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano – David di Donatello, served as Guest Director for Elle's daily newspaper at the 76th Venice Film Festival. In an interview at the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido, she discussed her new editorial venture with Elle, bringing a lifestyle daily to the festival to bridge fashion and cinema. Detassis reflected on the festival's edition, noting the initial controversy over only two female directors in competition but praising the strong female stories presented, such as in 'The Laundromat' with Meryl Streep. She addressed gender inequality in Italian cinema, citing the lack of progress on harassment issues and the backlash faced by Asia Argento. Detassis highlighted her efforts to balance the David di Donatello jury by gender and criticized the dismissal of women's issues as 'boring.' She also named 'Six Feet Under' as the series that changed her view on seriality, following 'Twin Peaks' by David Lynch.
