Piedmont Cultural Observatory Turns 20 Amid Digital Shift

institutional · 2026-05-04

In 2018, the Osservatorio Culturale del Piemonte (OCP), the oldest cultural observatory in Italy, celebrated its 20th anniversary during the European Year of Cultural Heritage. Founded in 1998 through a partnership with various organizations, including Regione Piemonte and Città di Torino, OCP provides extensive insights into the region's cultural scene. Luca Dal Pozzolo, the director, emphasized how digital technology has transformed daily life and cultural participation. At the 2017 annual report, OCP introduced a new research focus on digital impact, based on interviews with 40 participants aged 16 to 80 from Turin. This research was highlighted in the performance "Vite Digitali," directed by Valter Malosti with Elena Serra. In 2017, Piedmont's museum visits reached 6.64 million, an 11% increase from the previous year, outpacing national trends—something that seemed impossible a decade ago.
