Picto's fundraising photo show supports Bowery Mission during COVID-19
Picto, a photo lab founded in New York in 2015 as an offshoot of the Parisian lab established by Pierre Gassman in 1950, is running a fundraising initiative to support the Bowery Mission, a shelter that has provided food and beds since 1870. For a $150 donation, participants receive a print made from images donated by about a hundred photographers, mostly based in New York or connected to the city, including Antoine d'Agata, Gilles Peress, Thomas Dworzak, Pascal Perich, Bayete Ross-Smith, and Sam Youkilis. The fundraiser, which began in late April, has raised $25,000 so far. Those who do not purchase a photo can still explore the sequence of prints as a virtual collective photo exhibition. The initiative runs until May 25, 2020, and is especially timely during the coronavirus lockdown and the first-ever closure of the New York subway.
