PichiAvo burns 26-meter sculpture at Valencia's Fallas festival

festival-fair · 2026-05-04

Spanish street artist duo PichiAvo created a nearly 26-meter-tall monumental sculpture and set it on fire during a spectacular performance as part of Valencia's traditional Fallas festival. The festival, which celebrates the arrival of spring with over 700 events across the city, culminates in the burning of monumental figures to symbolize the end of winter. The neoclassical-style statue, covered in graffiti, was made of wood and cardboard and took a full year to produce with help from local artisans. The burning took place on March 19, 2019. An exhibition of selected works by PichiAvo remains on view at the Centro del Carmen until May 5, 2019.
