Picasso Vandalized at Tate Modern, Chinese Artist Arrested, and 2020 Tokyo Olympics Posters Revealed
A 20-year-old from London, Shakeel Ryan Massey, is charged with criminal damage for reportedly damaging Picasso's 'Bust Of A Woman' from 1944 at Tate Modern, which was taken down for conservation purposes. Last week, he appeared at Camberwell Green Magistrates Court, where he was denied bail and will stay in custody until a pre-trial hearing scheduled for 30 January at Inner London Crown Court. PEN America has urged for the release of Chinese artist Yang Licai, detained on 11 December for allegedly inciting unrest via social media. Yang, who was previously under house arrest in 2010, may face a five-year sentence. Additionally, Italian artist Monica Bonvicini received the 2020 Oskar Kokoschka Prize, while the 2020 Tokyo Olympics revealed 20 official art posters, and Canberra's National Gallery closed due to poor air quality from bushfires. Tarek Abou El Fetouh was selected for the art program at Expo Dubai 2020.
