Picasso Sculptures Take Over Paris Gallery in Landmark Show
Over 70 sculptures by Pablo Picasso, alongside 35 drawings and paintings, will be exhibited together for the first time at Galerie de l'Institut in Paris. The show, titled "Picasso / Sculture 1905-1962," runs from October 14 to December 17, 2022, across two venues on rue de Seine and rue des Beaux-Arts. It highlights key milestones in the artist's three-dimensional work, which includes over 650 sculptures created between 1902 and the early 1960s, with a particularly intense period in the late 1940s at the Fournas studio in Vallauris. The exhibition is divided into two themes: the figure and the bestiary. Notable pieces include the first Cubist sculpture, "Head of a Woman (Fernande)," which deconstructs volume into faceted three dimensions, and two rare 1961 cut, bent, and painted sheet metal heads—a self-portrait and a portrait of Jacqueline Picasso—on exceptional loan.
