Picasso's Graphic Works on View in Turin
A new exhibition in Turin, 'L'altro Picasso' (The Other Picasso), showcases 300 graphic works by Pablo Picasso, highlighting his less-known output in drawing, lithography, engraving, ceramics, sculpture, collage, and photography. The show is held at Palazzo Saluzzo Paesana in the historic center of Turin, organized by Radar Eventi Culturali, Extramuseum arte e scienza, and PTK Piemonteticket. It was previously presented in Bruges and will travel to Istanbul and Paris. Curated by Jean Christophe Hubert, the exhibition brings together works from eight Belgian and French collectors, including pieces by artists important to Picasso such as Jean Cocteau, Dora Maar, and Françoise Gillot. The chronological itinerary spans from the early 1900s to the 1960s, organized thematically around Spanish roots, tumultuous relationships, portraits, eroticism, and political works. Picasso produced over 2,000 engravings between 1899 and 1973, and the exhibition emphasizes his mastery of graphic techniques, including lithographs of bullfighting. A photographic section curated by David Lawrence (alias Frederic Lecompte Dieu of Templar Presse) features imaginary letters to figures like Auguste Renoir, Jean Cocteau, Winston Churchill, David Bowie, Van Gogh, Matisse, Dalí, Baudelaire, and Orson Welles.
