Picasso on Paper: A Retrospective at Kunsthal Rotterdam
The Kunsthal Rotterdam presents 'Picasso on Paper', a comprehensive exhibition exploring Pablo Picasso's graphic oeuvre from his early Barcelona years to the 1960s. The show traces his evolution from the melancholic Blue Period to the joyful Rose Period, through Cubist experiments, and into his mature printmaking. Key highlights include the Vollard Suite (1930-37), commissioned by dealer Ambroise Vollard, which features Marie-Thérèse Walter and mythological themes, and the politically charged 'Sueño y Mentira de Franco' (1937), a precursor to Guernica. The exhibition also showcases Picasso's later linocuts, such as 'Buste de femme à la Cranach le Jeune' (1958), inspired by German Renaissance painting. Works from the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen collection are on view. The show runs until May 12, 2019.
