Picasso Museum Málaga Offers Knitting and Embroidery Workshops

other · 2026-08-10

The Museo Picasso Málaga is hosting two adult workshops tied to its current exhibition, 'Joana Vasconcelos. Transfiguración', which runs until the end of September. The workshops focus on traditional textile techniques that are central to the Portuguese artist's work, which transforms everyday objects into large-scale sculptures and installations, bridging tradition and contemporaneity. 'Punto por punto', a knitting workshop for beginners, will take place on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September, from 5 to 8 pm. It will be led by María Hoyos, known online as Knitidea, a designer and knitting and crochet teacher who has been sharing patterns and resources through workshops and digital platforms for years. The second workshop, 'Puntadas con hilo', is a contemporary embroidery workshop scheduled for Thursday 24 and Friday 25 September, also from 5 to 8 pm. It will be directed by Loly Ghirardi (Srta. Lylo), an Argentine embroiderer and graphic designer based in Barcelona for over two decades. Participants will create a piece inspired by traditional Portuguese iconography, working on a wooden sieve with thread and needle, incorporating references to the Coração de Viana and floral motifs from Lenços dos Namorados. No prior experience is required. Both workshops are in-person, last six hours each, and cost 40 euros per person, including a visit to the exhibition and all materials. Registration is available at www.museopicassomalaga.org, with limited spots.
