Piazzale Michelangelo's Restored Balustrade Unveiled in Florence
Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence just had its cast-iron balustrade beautifully restored, thanks to over a million euros invested by Starhotels through the Art Bonus program. This restoration, managed by the Direzione Servizi Tecnici and the Servizio Belle Arti e fabbrica di Palazzo Vecchio, kicked off back in January 2016. Mayor Dario Nardella and Starhotels’ President and CEO, Elisabetta Fabri, recently revealed the finished work. The balustrade, originally crafted by architect Giuseppe Poggi from 1865 to 1875, has been returned to its original rich hue of pietra forte. Nardella also announced plans to repave the square and restore nearby basins, with support from Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze, emphasizing the importance of the Art Bonus in enhancing Florence’s heritage.
