Pia Gazzola's Photographic Pairings at Studio La Città, Verona

Pia Gazzola (born Negrar, 1945) presents her work at Studio La Città in Verona, where she pairs photographic images with bookbinding thread to create a narrative dynamic. Her method juxtaposes two images, directing the viewer's gaze into a reading-like motion that constantly revalues what is seen. This pairing produces surprise, as in the 2015 work 'Blù,' where details emerge. In 'Scritture' (2015), the impression left by the back of a 19th-century lead print evokes the polychrome lights filtering through the grilles of the Alhambra. Gazzola has been described as a sculptor of Time, a concept explored in the serial juxtaposition of 'Due passi' (2017), where images from Barcelona and Madrid vibrate under the footfall of the gaze.
