PhotoMonaco: First Photography Fair to Debut in Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo, the glamorous principality known for its casino and tax haven status, is expanding its cultural offerings with the launch of PhotoMonaco, its first fair dedicated to photography. The inaugural edition will take place from April 5 to 8, 2018, at the Grimaldi Forum. The fair is intentionally small, featuring 35 galleries evenly split between regional and international participants. The chosen theme, 'Le temps du regard,' allows galleries to present both contemporary works and historical gems. This initiative reflects Monaco's broader investment in cultural projects, including the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco directed by Marie-Claude Beaud, which operates at Villa Sauber and Villa Paloma. The museum collaborates with the Festival Printemps des Arts, a month-long event held across venues like the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Auditorium Ranieri III. Additionally, Artmonte-carlo, the spring edition of Artgenève, takes place at the Grimaldi Forum in late April. The photography market is experiencing strong growth, particularly in France, as seen in the success of Paris Photo and Les Rencontres d'Arles.
