Photology Online Gallery Honors Gianfranco Gorgoni with Digital Tribute

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Photology gallery, with locations in Noto and Garzón, Uruguay, has launched a digital tribute to photographer Gianfranco Gorgoni (Rome, 1941 – New York, 2019) on its virtual platform, Photology Online Gallery, running until May 31, 2021. The exhibition marks the 80th anniversary of Gorgoni's birth and showcases his iconic photographs documenting the Land Art movement in American deserts. Gorgoni, who died prematurely in September 2019, became the principal visual chronicler of Land Art through his access to artists facilitated by New York gallerist Leo Castelli. The online display includes images of Keith Haring climbing a fence before the Queens Bridge (NYC 1985), Richard Serra working in Castelli's warehouse (NYC 1970), and the famous shot of Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty (1970-2010). Since 2020, all Photology exhibitions are exclusively online, allowing a wider audience to view and purchase photographic works. The 3D platform presents works born from Gorgoni's encounters with major 20th-century American artists such as Andy Warhol, Richard Serra, Keith Haring, Robert Rauschenberg, and James Rosenquist.
