Photographer Martin Parr Dies at 73, Solo Exhibition Planned at Jeu de Paume
Martin Parr, a renowned British documentary photographer celebrated for his ironic portrayals of British culture and worldwide consumerism, passed away at the age of 73 on 6 December 2025 in his home in Bristol, as reported by his foundation. Over his career, Parr authored more than 100 photobooks, with his inaugural memoir, 'Utterly Lazy and Inattentive,' released in September 2025. Despite being diagnosed with myeloma earlier that year, he continued to capture images using a rollator. A solo exhibition titled 'Global Warning' will showcase his work at the Jeu de Paume in Paris from 30 January to 24 May 2025. Born in Surrey in 1952, he studied at Manchester Polytechnic and produced acclaimed series such as 'The Last Resort' and 'Small World.' He became a member of Magnum in 1994 and established the Martin Parr Foundation in 2014. A documentary, 'I Am Martin Parr,' directed by Lee Shulman, is anticipated in 2024.
