Photographer Efrem Raimondi Dies at 62

Efrem Raimondi, Italian photographer and artist known for his intimate portraits of celebrities and family, died of a heart attack at age 62. Born in Legnano in 1958, he began his career in 1980 with a reportage on the Irpinia earthquake. His work appeared in GQ, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, and other magazines, and he collaborated with brands like Trussardi, IBM Italia, and Prada. He served on the Hasselblad Master Jury and the board of Afip International. Raimondi photographed figures such as Joe Strummer, Monica Bellucci, Cat Power, Franca Sozzani, Lea Vergine, Enzo Mari, Alex Zanardi, Riccardo Muti, and Prime Minister Mario Draghi. His most famous collaboration was with Vasco Rossi, for whom he shot the album Stupido Hotel (2000) and co-authored the photo book Tabula Rasa with Toni Thorimbert. In 2018, he presented the exhibition La mia famiglia at the Colorno Photolife Festival in Parma, featuring 15 intimate portraits made over his career using techniques from Polaroid to large format. Raimondi rejected the concept of the "project," focusing instead on language and personal vision.
