Photographer Carlo Orsi dies at 80

Carlo Orsi, the Milanese photographer known for his work documenting the city and collaborating with artists, has died. Born in Milan in 1941, he began as an assistant to Ugo Mulas before working as a photojournalist for Panorama, Il Mondo, and Oggi. Orsi also worked in fashion and advertising, creating campaigns for Perla, Ducati, and Omsa. He collaborated with artists Arnaldo Pomodoro (curating his image from 1984) and Jannis Kounellis. In 1965, he published a book on Milan with Dino Buzzati, later reissued with texts by Aldo Nove, produced with Giulia Pirelli for Bruno Alfieri. In 1997, he co-founded the magazine Città with friends, publishing 10 issues until 2001. The magazine focused on Milan's contemporary reality through photography. His first exhibition was in Bergamo in 1984, curated by Mario Botta, titled 30 +1 ritratti fotografici. In 1987, he exhibited in Gibellina with photographs of Arnaldo Pomodoro's work. He later showed at galleries including Philippe Daverio, Studio Marconi, Pitti Immagine, bar Jamaica, Galleria Antonia Jannone, and Raffaella De Chirico in Turin, with a show titled No photoshop.
