Photo London Showcases Diverse Photographic Practices Across Galleries

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

Photo London features a diverse collection of photographic art from various galleries. At Flowers Gallery, you'll find Michael Wolf's "Tokyo Compression" (2009–11), showcasing faces pressed against Tokyo Metro windows, evoking the essence of urban life, much like Hiro's "Shinjuku, Tokyo" (1962) and Walker Evans's "New York Subway Portraits" (1938–41). Galerie Thomas Zander presents Lee Friedlander's "Chain Link" (1970–) series, highlighting wire fences in the US, along with documentary pieces by Garry Winogrand, Walker Evans, Robert Frank, and Helen Levitt that capture everyday moments. Miho Kajioka's tranquil images of seed stalks and bamboo are available as an artist book at Ibasho. At Akio Nagasawa, Kou Inose’s stark 1980s black-and-white photos reflect unsettling aspects of a psychiatric hospital, inspired by Yumeno Kyūsaku's "Dogra Magra" (1935). Meghann Riepenhoff's "Ecotone" and "Littoral Drift" series at Euqinom Projects create abstract seascapes using natural elements for camera-less cyanotypes.
