Photo London 2026 Review: Legs, AI, and Eastern European Archives at Olympia
The 11th edition of Photo London moved from Somerset House to Olympia (14-17 May 2026), a purpose-built venue from 1925 nearing remodelling completion. Reviews were positive. Highlights included Jo Ann Callis's mid-1970s 'Now and Then' series at ROSEGALLERY, Santa Monica, exploring domestic tensions. Denise Webber presented her Threshold series at Close, Somerset/London, photographing women's legs entering a Taoist building in Singapore. Zofia Rydet's 'Sociological Record' at Raster, Warsaw featured women on thresholds, part of an unofficial archive of Eastern European material culture. KwieKulik's 1986 performance 'Banana and Pome-grenade' at Persons Projects, Berlin was recently printed. Baud Postma at Canopy Collections showed AI-generated images photographed with an 8x10 camera and converted to intaglio prints, shortlisted for the Nikon Emerging Photographer Award. Edward Burtynsky presented Australian minescapes in the public programme via Flowers Gallery. Yan Wang Preston reimagined Manet's 'Olympia' at Messums, London/Wiltshire, incorporating Chinese flower symbolism. Christopher Thomas at Ira Stehmann Fine Art showed 'Eternity' series of cemetery flowers. Ingrid Pollard's 'The Valentine Days' at Autograph reworked 19th-century Jamaican postcards. Antony Cairns presented a daily-changing installation using computer punch cards and an IBM DOS manual as catalogue.
