Photo London 2021: 88 Galleries, Robert Capa and Shirin Neshat at Somerset House
Photo London, the first major international photography fair since 2019, is taking place at Somerset House in London until September 12. The fair features 88 galleries from 15 countries, including Milan's 29 Arts in Progress. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions and competing fairs in New York and Paris, 70% of participating galleries are London-based, a decision that organizers made to support local galleries. A digital edition runs until September 28, with additional galleries like Viasaterna Arte Contemporanea. The fair's sixth edition includes a mix of established masters (appearing via Zoom for some talks) and emerging artists, with 24 recent graduates showcased in the 'Graduates' Salon' supported by the Stanley Foundation and Scott Mead. Two notable exhibitions are on view: 'Close Enough: Robert Capa' presents 50 iconic photographs including D-Day landings and his last images before his death in Indochina in 1954, organized in partnership with Messums London and the Kogan Collection; and 'Land of Dreams' by Iranian artist Shirin Neshat, winner of the Master of Photography Award, featuring 111 portraits of New Mexico residents and a video installation.
