Photo book 'Sex, Clubs, Dissent' celebrates queer nightlife from 1960s to today

The newly released photo book 'Sex, Clubs, Dissent: Visualising Queer Nightlife' presents a compelling argument for the influential role of candid images taken within and around clubs. Curated by Amelia Abraham, a writer and frequent London club-goer, this anthology surveys nightlife photography from the 1960s to the present, highlighting the complex dynamics of capturing some of queer culture's most provocative and politically charged instances. Featuring contributions from artists like Wolfgang Tillmans, Sunil Gupta, and Kia LaBeija, the book illustrates how photography can reveal the liberating essence of queer nightlife in all its vibrant, chaotic, and sensual forms. Abraham aimed for the book to evoke the experience of a night out, showcasing unfiltered images of stripteases, joyous embraces, and even a dressed-up dog.
