Phillips to Hold Annual Auction Dedicated to David Hockney

Phillips has announced it will hold an annual auction dedicated to David Hockney, starting September 20, 2023, at its London headquarters at 30 Berkeley Square. The decision by the auction house's Multiples department follows the success of a 2022 white-glove sale focused on the artist. Each annual sale will feature a varied selection of rare works across media and price points, from £1,000 to £250,000 and above. A public exhibition of Hockney's works will run from September 14 to 20 at the same venue. Robert Kennan, Head of Editions, Europe, stated that the initiative aims to celebrate Hockney's achievements and meet strong collector demand across all levels. Hockney, now 85, continues to innovate, including drawing on iPad, and is currently the subject of a National Gallery exhibition featuring a portrait of Harry Styles. Recent shows at Pace Gallery in New York and Palm Beach, and an immersive exhibition at Lightroom in London, underscore his enduring appeal. Phillips noted that interest in Hockney's work is growing across generations and collector types.
