Phillips spring sales: young artists and Enea Righi collection shine
On April 15-16, 2021, Phillips conducted its spring contemporary art auctions, showcasing pieces from both emerging talents and renowned 20th-century artists. Notable sales included Jean Dubuffet's "La féconde journée" (1976), which fetched £4,378,500; Mark Rothko's "Untitled (Black Blue Painting)" (1968) at £2,866,000; Andy Warhol's "One Grey / Black Marilyn (Reversal Series) II-50-160" (1979-1986) for £733,650; and Alberto Giacometti's "Nu debout II" (1953), which sold for £1,813,300. Emerging African artists shone, exemplified by Lina Iris Viktor's "Constellations III" (2016) selling for £195,300. The April 16 auction included "Out of the Blue," featuring Alighiero Boetti's "faccine" (1977) at £102,060. Collector Enea Righi noted that the proceeds would support new acquisitions.
